Why the beginning matters so much
People come to Spanish for many different reasons: travel, family, work, living abroad, curiosity, or simply the desire to connect with a language spoken by millions of people around the world.
But whatever your reason is, the first steps can shape the whole experience.
When you start by collecting phrases without understanding the sounds, the structure or the small words that hold everything together, Spanish can quickly start to feel confusing.
You might know how to say a few things, but not feel confident using them in a different situation.
Perhaps you recognise words on a page, but hesitate when it is time to say them out loud.
And listening can feel even harder, especially when Spanish sounds fast and the words seem to run into each other.
If this feels familiar, it does not say anything about your ability to learn languages. It usually means you need a clearer way in.
What often happens when the foundation is not clear
Spanish has a generous side.
Once you understand the main pronunciation rules, reading words out loud becomes much easier than many beginners expect.
But if nobody shows you those rules clearly, even simple words can make you hesitate.
Then come the little things: the articles, the endings, the difference between masculine and feminine, the way words change from singular to plural, and all those small words that appear everywhere but are not always properly explained.
These are not advanced details. They are part of the base.

What you will learn inside Module 1
This is a complete first module designed to help you begin with clarity and confidence.
These lessons include audio practice, so you can listen, repeat and train your ear from the beginning.
You will learn the main pronunciation rules you need to start saying Spanish words out loud.
Spanish is a phonetic language, which means that letters usually represent consistent sounds. Once you understand the main rules, you can begin to read Spanish words and pronounce them with much more confidence.
You do not need to sound like a native speaker.
You only need pronunciation that is clear enough to be understood and that helps you understand others more easily too.
You will learn common words and phrases to greet someone in Spanish and ask simple questions when you meet someone for the first time.
These are simple phrases, but they are also your first step into real communication.
You will learn everyday words and expressions that appear constantly in real conversations.
They help you respond, soften what you say, show politeness and start sounding more natural from the beginning.
You will learn the Spanish alphabet and the names of the letters.
This is useful when someone asks you to spell your name, your email address or any other words.
It also helps you keep building the relationship between written Spanish and spoken Spanish.
You will learn how Spanish nouns work. The words we use to name people, places, things and ideas.
You will see why nouns are masculine or feminine, how to recognise some patterns, and how singular and plural forms are created.
This is one of the first structural pieces you need if you want Spanish to make sense.
You will review everything you have learnt in the module with extra exercises and listening practice.
At the end, you will complete a short quiz to check your understanding and bring everything together.

¡Hola! My name is Ana.
I’m from Galicia, in the north of Spain, and I’m the teacher behind Español Vivo.
I have been teaching Spanish since 2010, working with hundreds of adult learners from different countries, levels and backgrounds.
I also know what it feels like to learn a language from zero, to travel or live abroad, and to feel frustrated when you cannot express yourself as clearly as you would like.
That is one of the reasons why I care so much about making Spanish feel clearer, more structured and more human for adult learners.
My background in Psychopedagogy helps me design materials that are clear, progressive and practical, with explanations you can understand and practice that helps you use what you are learning from the beginning.
